Jay Causey has practiced for nearly 30 years in the area of workers' compensation and disability law, including Washington State workers' compensation claims, Social Security Disability cases, Longshore & Harborworkers' Act cases and maritime injury claims. He is past Chair of the Washington State Trial Lawyers' Association (WSTLA) Workers' Compensation Section and has served on WSTLA's legislative steering committee. From 1994 to 1995, he served as Chair of the Workers' Compensation Section of the Association of Trial Lawyers of America (ATLA), now called the American Association for Justice (AAJ). He is also a charter member of the National Organization of Social Security Claimants' Representatives, formed in 1979.

In 1995, Jay was one of a cadre of lawyers involved in workers' compensation issues on a national level who founded the Workplace Injury Law & Advocacy Group (WILG), a non-profit corporation headquartered in Washington, D.C., which connects and allies workers' attorneys and advocates in all 50 states. Since its inception, WILG has been the most active national watchdog organization to monitor the coordinated assault on workers' compensation by the business lobby and the workers' compensation insurance industry. WILG has played a significant role in helping various states resist proposed legislative "reforms" of workers' compensation, which typically involve cutbacks in coverage and benefits. Jay has been a member of the Board of Directors of WILG since its creation, and has served a two-year term as President. He created Workers First Watch, WILG's quarterly magazine, and serves as its executive editor.

Jay has been listed in Best Lawyers in America in workers' compensation. He has been named by Seattle Magazine as one of "Seattle's best lawyers" and by Washington Law & Politics magazine as one of "Washington's Super Lawyers" in the workers' compensation field.

Jay received his J.D. from the University of Washington School of Law in 1971. He graduated from Yale University in 1967 with a B.A. in History. He is also a member of the State Bar of California, and served as an officer in the United States Marine Corps Reserve.
